Cherry   Table   with   a   double   cherry   pedestal   base

This large two inch thick cherry table was a joy to build.  The long, wide boards had tremendous grain and very little of the lighter sap wood.  Because the customer wanted the wood's natural color, no stain was applied and a water based was used on both the table top and the base.  Over time, the wood will naturally and beautifully darken.

The base is a beautiful arched pedestal design made up of many wood pieces glued together and shaped to be both pleasing to the eye and very strong.

Black  Walnut  Square  Table  on  a  square  Black  walnut  base

This 70 inch square table is two inch thick black walnut and finished with tung oil.  As always, the customer and I worked out a design per their needs and desires.  I mailed a finished sample for their approval.

black  walnut  table  with  reclaimed  lumber  base

The 4 by 5 foot breadboard style table top is 2 inches thick black walnut with a tung oil finish.  Although the original design called for the legs showing through the top, the client changed her mind and the change was easily made.
This table definitely ties the modern and rustic design aspects that the client wanted!

The base is constructed from reclaimed lumber from a barn that was over 125 years old.  To preserve the natural look of the old wood, only water based poly was used on the base legs and cross members . The legs are almost five inches square and still have the beam mortise holes and nails that the black smith provided.  The cross members retain the original saw marks.

black  walnut  dining  room  table

Yes it is that large!!!
The solid black walnut top is 2 inch thick and finished with tung oil.  The boards are between 4 and 8 inches wide.  For such a natural material and huge table, it is amazingly flat.  With two 18" table extensions mounted, the table is 10.5 feet by 5 feet and seats 14.  The top solidly weighs in at about 240 pounds.

To support the heavy top and extensions, the base is fabricated using construction lumber (for strength) that is clad in hardwood and painted black and finished with polyurethane.  The base can be easily and fully disassembled to move.  To support the heavy and large extensions without any flexing, 3x1 inch tube steel is used and is fully retractable when not in use. Black walnut is used to tie in the three pieces.
This hardwood bench seats three and ties in the decorative black walnut like the table base. The design and finish matche the table base as well.

Reclaimed   lumber   barn   door   table

This reclaimed white oak table is patterned after a barn door with inlayed cross members.  The ends are breadboard in function so as to allow for the natural seasonal expansion and contraction of the wood.  The base is strongly assembled with traditional mortise and tenon joinery (no metal fasteners) to be beautiful and functionally strong.  The finish is a light black stain and water based varnish so as to not yellow over time.

OUTDOOR   CONCRETE   TABLES   AND   SERVER

My bride has asked for new deck tables and a server. The tops are two inch thick concrete and have a rustic look and feel with a trowelled face.  The top is finished using an acid etch stain with five coats of spar varnish and a final wax coating.

The two tables are five feet long and 40 inches wide; together they sit 10 comfortably.  The server is five by two feet and taller than the table:  perfect for serving with two cutouts containers that keep lots of drinks ice cold!.

The reclaimed oak beams used as table bases to support the tops are finished with boiled linseed oil and coated with spar varnish.
